Another key focus of our guide is to highlight the strengths of the airport and also the weaknesses, and in some cases, offer recommendations to travelers. In alignment with this approach, we provide users with aggregated information on delays and on-time performance, analyzing both airlines and individual flights.

What Passengers Like About Geneva Airport
1. Convenient Location
One of the most frequently mentioned advantages is the airport’s proximity to the city. Travelers appreciate that the airport is only a few minutes from downtown Geneva, making transfers quick and easy.
Many reviews highlight that reaching the city center by train takes only about 7 minutes, which is much faster than many other European airports.
2. Compact and Easy to Navigate
Passengers often describe the airport as relatively small and efficient, especially compared with large international hubs.
Because of its compact design, travelers can move between check-in, security, and boarding gates without long walking distances.
Some reviews also mention that transfers between flights are generally straightforward.
3. Good Transport Connections
Many users praise the excellent public transport connections, including trains, buses, and direct access to Alpine destinations.

Most Common Complaints from Travelers

1. Long Queues at Passport Control
One of the most common complaints involves very long waiting times at passport control, particularly during busy periods such as the winter ski season.
Some passengers report queues lasting more than an hour, especially for non-EU travelers.
In some cases, travelers describe the experience as chaotic due to limited passport control desks being open.
2. Overcrowding During Peak Season
Another frequently mentioned issue is overcrowding, especially on weekends in winter when large numbers of skiers arrive.
Several reviews note that the airport sometimes feels too small for the number of passengers it handles, leading to congestion in security lines and boarding areas.
3. Limited Seating and Waiting Areas
Some travelers complain that there are not enough seats in the terminal, particularly near boarding gates.
Passengers occasionally mention having to stand while waiting for flights during busy periods.
4. Expensive Shops and Food
Like many Swiss locations, the airport is sometimes criticized for high prices in restaurants and shops.
Passengers also mention that food options can be somewhat limited compared with larger European hubs.
Overall Passenger Impression
Overall, traveler feedback suggests that Geneva Airport offers a convenient and efficient travel experience, especially for short-haul European flights and trips to the Alps.
However, the airport’s relatively small size means that capacity issues can appear during peak travel periods, which explains many of the negative reviews.

How we calculate On Time Performance
On various pages of our website, you will encounter a metric widely utilized in aviation and other forms of transportation known as OTP (On Time Performance). We believe that providing this metric assists passengers in planning their trips and exploring alternatives before purchasing their flight tickets.
We calculate the On Time Performance for all flights and airlines, when we have enough data to do so. In certain instances, it may not be feasible to accurately compute the On-Time Performance for a specific flight or airline due to inadequate or non-representative data, which could result in misleading conclusions.
Our calculation of On Time Performance and delay information solely relies on arrival times. This approach is chosen over calculating departure delays, as we consider arrival punctuality to be of primary concern to passengers.
The On Time Performance displayed on our website is calculated as follows:
- On Time: Flights that arrive within 15 minutes of their scheduled arrival time, or earlier. In the absence of data for a specific flight, we assume the flight arrives on time, to avoid penalizing airlines for data unavailability.
- Moderate Delay: Flights that arrive with a delay of 15 to 30 minutes.
- Significant Delay: Flights that arrive with a delay of 30 to 60 minutes.
- Major Delay: Flights that arrive with a delay exceeding 60 minutes.
- Average Delay: The average delay is calculated by considering flights that arrive early as having a delay of 0 minutes. Early arrivals do not contribute to reducing the average delay calculation
