Geneva Airport is well connected to the city and surrounding region thanks to Switzerland’s efficient transportation network. Located only about 4 km from the city centre, travelers can reach downtown Geneva in just a few minutes by train, bus, or taxi. The airport’s compact layout makes transfers quick and easy, with most transport services located directly outside the arrivals area.
Geneva is one of the easiest European airports for reaching the city center quickly—often in less than 10 minutes by train.
Train
The airport railway station is located directly beneath the terminal building, making the train the fastest and most convenient way to reach the city.
Regular trains connect the airport with Geneva Cornavin railway station, the city’s main rail hub, in about 7 minutes. From there, passengers can continue to destinations across Switzerland including Lausanne, Montreux, and Zurich.
Trains run frequently throughout the day, often every 15 minutes or less, and are operated by Swiss Federal Railways.

Visitors arriving at the airport can obtain a free public transport ticket from machines in the baggage claim area, valid for 80 minutes within Geneva.
Bus and Public Transport
Geneva Airport is also served by an extensive network of buses operated by Transports Publics Genevois.
Several bus lines connect the airport with different districts of the city and nearby towns. Bus stops are located directly outside the arrivals hall.
Popular routes include:
- Bus 5 – connects the airport with the city centre and the lakeside areas
- Bus 10 – one of the most useful lines, linking the airport with downtown Geneva and major residential districts
- Bus 23 and 28 – serve suburban areas and business districts
Travel times to the city centre usually range from 20 to 30 minutes, depending on traffic and the number of stops.
If you are staying in a hotel in Geneva, you will often receive a free Geneva Transport Card, allowing unlimited travel on buses, trams, trains, and even some boats during your stay.
Taxi
Taxis are available 24 hours a day from the official taxi rank located outside the arrivals area of the terminal.
A typical taxi ride from the airport to central Geneva takes 10–15 minutes, depending on traffic conditions.
